NEST OF LIGHT

Not a simple lamp.

Nest of light

Competition TMD
(Terra Migaki Design) 2019

In the green design, the TMD competition, in its fourth edition, represents the first and only example that investigates the use of raw earth, the oldest material in the furniture and everyday objects.

Designed by Italian designers Mario Meola and Valeria Civitillo, twins third place at the fourth edition of the TMD Competition at the Fuori Salone in Milan.

Nest of light

An inspiration, that of natural forms, not new in the world of design and architecture, construction processes, the result of spatial needs linked to primary vital needs, which can be codified in geometric-mathematical terms.

Nest of light

“Nest of light” is conceived through the study of the mathematical model underlying the natural structure created by wasps and the metaphorical-formal reinterpretation of the object.

“Nest of light” is also a tribute to Japanese culture and its encounter with our artisan know-how. In Japan, as in our land, the protagonist is raw clay: Otsumigaki.

Concept (from natural shapes to the model)

A light that wants to be a symbol of life and that celebrates it by drawing inspiration from a real work of art created by nature: The nest of the potter wasps.

It is the extraordinary ability of these insects that transforms the natural earth, shaping and cementing it, into nests with perfect geometric shapes similar to amphorae.
